New Beginnings

Happy December!

As I write, we’re 10 days away from Christmas and we’ve only got just over a fortnight left of 2023! As much as I love a ‘clean start’ and a ‘fresh slate’, there is something about New Year’s Day that I always find a little daunting. New Year’s Resolutions can place us under pressure that we really don’t need.

I recently spent a little time with a lovely friend (and business expert) to evaluate the trajectory of my business and dig a little deeper into the ‘brand message’ that I wanted to demonstrate. Through doing this, I started to formulate an action plan with two initial (but not small) tasks at the top:

1. Increase the visibility of my branding through the use of my website and social media.

2. Clarify my target market and speak to them through everything that I do.

Rather than setting myself up to fail by planning that from January 1st 2024, I will post on social media every day, write weekly blog posts and maintain a consistent brand message, this time I have taken a different approach…

· My action plan is not an official document, typed in my brand font and colours. It is handwritten on a piece of A6 card and propped up in front of my computer.

· Rather than placing the future success of my business solely in the hands of the sparkly new business woman that I will morph into at 00:01 on 1st January 2024, I started to put my action plan into place on Tuesday 28th November. This wasn’t for any other reason than I had an hour spare in which I could start to put together my first Instagram post.

· As much as I may like to in an ideal world, I accept that I will not post on social media every day, nor will my brand message always be perfectly consistent.

As a perfectionist, this approach doesn’t come naturally to me, but this is a long game and not a sprint. When the New Year comes around in a few weeks, we may not automatically be able to achieve all of our goals, but we will be one step closer.
